Lose the Attitude

Choose Your Attitude

Although we don't yet fully understand the mind/body connection, we do know that a positive attitude can:

you want to feel?" alt="Stress management image." src="http://images.vortala.com/chiropractor/graphics/da_topical/jun10/stress.jpg">

Stress management image.

Believe it or not, you choose how you feel every moment! What do you want to feel?

  • Help improve mood, self-esteem and sense of well-being

  • Decrease depression, anxiety and hostility

  • Lessen pain and other bodily symptoms

  • Speed recovery

  • Enhance immune function

  • Extend longevity

We also know that to a great extent, our attitude is determined by how we decide to think about events. This "self-talk," whether positive or negative, is so powerful that it determines not just our emotions, but the condition of our physical and mental well-being as well.

Three simple action steps to help optimize your emotional health:
  1. Acknowledge that you're in control. The great thing about your attitude is that it's yours. You cannot control what others say or do, but you can control how you react to it. Simply put, no one can put you in a bad mood unless you give them permission!

  2. Be thankful. Put things in perspective. You are alive, something that billions of those before us cannot say. You have food, shelter and safety. Something that millions alive today do not enjoy. Appreciate your countless blessings!

  3. Don't worry about the small stuff. Remember what's important, and ignore the little things. Focus on the larger picture and you'll find less frustration in your daily interactions with others. The things that matter most are your health and happiness and your family's health and happiness.

What are vertebral subluxations?

What are vertebral subluxations?

A vertebral subluxation is the result of spinal bones with improper motion or position affecting nerve communications between your brain and your body.

sub = less than | luxation = dislocation

A vertebral subluxation is a stress response. Muscles go into spasm. Spinal bones lock up. And adjacent nerves are choked or chafed. This interferes with the control and regulation of your body. This garbles communications between the brain and parts of your body.

[Cell phone]

[Cell phone]

A dropped cell phone call is irritating. But dropped communications between your brain and your body can seriously impair your health!

Distorted nerve communications can be an underlying cause of many health problems beyond just headaches and back pain. For example. Interfere with nerve impulses going to or from your stomach: stomach problems.

Your nervous system controls every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. These nerve impulses travel through your spine. So having a spine free of vertebral subluxation is essential for optimal health.

Only a chiropractic examination can detect vertebral subluxations. And only chiropractic adjustments can reduce their effect to your nervous system, naturally.

Find out if you have vertebral subluxations before they become more serious and more difficult to correct.

Is Your Job a Pain?

Backaches and sciatica image.

Construction workers aren't the only ones who suffer work-related back and neck pain.

Is Your Job a Pain?

Neck and low back pain, previously associated primarily with jobs involving physical labor, is now striking an increasing number of white-collar workers. If you thought pain could only occur with heavy lifting, turning, bending and repetitive motions, you may be surprised to learn that back pain is becoming a plague among those who lift nothing heavier than a stapler.

While workplace design and employee fitness are factors in office workers developing neck and back injuries, an overlooked element is the psychosocial factor: that is, how positive a person's mental outlook is, and especially how much they like their career.

Instead of taking drugs to reduce the symptoms of neck and back pain, more and more recommendations involve reducing the amount of stress and taking steps to increase job satisfaction.

Experts say that up to 80 percent of adults will seek treatment for work-related neck or back pain at some point in their career. Getting to the underlying cause of the pain is the key to helping your body heal itself naturally!

7,500 People Die Each Year From Taking The Right Amount Of Aspirin & Ibuprofen

More Aspirin?

Headache and neck pain image.

Aspirin, like other NSAIDS, only temporarily masks painful symptoms!

They can be found in just about every medicine cabinet. Millions take them without a second thought. One a day is being recommended to prevent heart attacks! What are they? They are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

You may know these drugs, available without a prescription, by many different names. As a practice interested in natural health care solutions, we see two concerns that some of our patients overlook.

The first danger is from the adverse reactions to these drugs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that about 75,000 people each year in the U.S. visit hospitals due to adverse reactions to these convenient, over-the-counter drugs. About 10% of those die. That may seem like a small danger for the convenient relief NSAIDs offer, unless you or a family member become a statistic!

We think an even greater danger is the philosophical implication of taking these drugs. Aches or pains that prompt their use are warning signs. Like flashing lights that we see when driving, warning signs are to be taken seriously. They protect us. They serve a purpose. Popping a couple of pills to silence our body's cry for change shows a profound disrespect for this miraculous, self-healing body we live in!

Worse, using NSAIDs often reflects the belief that being healthy is about how youfeel. But numbing the "alarm bells" your body is sending doesn't make you healthy. You may fool your body but you're not fooling your children. What do you teach them when you take drugs to "feel better" or to make the pain of everyday living go away? How will you explain the difference between a "good" drug and a "bad" drug?

NSAIDs may be convenient. They may save time. They may even allow you to ignore your body for awhile. But there is a price to be paid. Maybe not with stomach bleeding, liver damage or some other side effect. But a price, nonetheless.

Instead of reaching into the medicine cabinet, reach for the phone and call us: 651-484-0151. Let us find the underlying cause and reduce it with a program of safe and natural chiropractic adjustments that honor the wisdom of your body.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy?

Chiropractic and Pregnancy

Women's Health Issues image.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your baby.

Some people raise their eyebrows when they hear about a pregnant woman receiving chiropractic care. What they often don't understand is that chiropractic care is beneficial to both the mother and to her growing child!

What are some of the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy?

  • Improved functioning of the nervous system helps both the mother and the developing fetus.
  • Proper alignment of the pelvis supports the growing uterus and allows maximum room for the baby to grow.
  • Proper positioning of the fetus for labor and delivery helps reduce the amount of pain the mother experiences during labor and may allow for an easier birth.
  • Lower back/pelvic pain due to the weight of the developing fetus is reduced.
  • Some common hormonal side effects that result from pregnancy are eliminated.

In addition, many chiropractors have been trained to use the Webster Technique, which uses gentle adjustments to help a baby assume the best possible position for a safe delivery. It is generally used when a baby is in a breech position in the uterus. Many women have successfully avoided Caesarian section births because of this technique.

Discuss this, and any other issue related to pregnancy, when you next visit Advanced Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic.

Why I Recommend Frequent Visits

Why I Recommend Frequent Visits

When patients begin chiropractic care I will frequently recommend up to three visits per week or more. I'm often asked how I arrive at this visit schedule.

Since the patient is doing the healing, not me, everyone responds differently. Predicting the best course of care is a combination of education, experience and keen observation skills.

A chiropractic adjustment applies a specific force, at a specific location, in a specific direction to assist your body in "righting" itself. Only your body knows where a particular vertebra is supposed to be! My job is to supply energy at the right time and place so your body can use it.
We've found that frequent visits at the beginning of care balances the repetition needed to establish a healthier spinal pattern with fitting chiropractic care into a busy life. We've tried more and less frequent care schedules. But for most new patients, up to three times a week seems to produce the best results in the shortest amount of time.
